2020 Member News

News from our within membership is shared in this post. (If I overlook posting your news, please nudge me. The pandemic activity has caused many administrative gaps.)

IN MEMORY

Sig Martin recognized our well-traveled Ramsey Campin’Ram at her RV park before she saw me, and we had a great laugh over that! She had been following Ramsey’s 2016 tour of Colorado through its 7,000+ miles, and she was ecstatic to see him at her park.

As of April 11, Sig is now free of cancer. Denny Martin opened Silver Summit RV Park & Jeep Rentals in Silverton for the 2020 season without his dear wife and business partner. Here is Sig’s obituary.

IN THE NEWS!

We have distributed press releases that have been shared in various publications with the goal of reaching new audiences. We also published them as blog posts for our own audience (several are yet to be posted), but those are stories by CCLOA.

The promotional stories here originated either through us or through sources other than CCLOA, but often times we can’t discern between an end product and the communications that led to that end product. Regardless, we’re always happy to see our members receiving media attention, so we’ll share what we spot out there.

Ute Bluff Lodge, Cabins & RV Park (South Fork) has new owners. Their onsite manager is Claralynn Schnell. As we bid farewell to the Grills, we welcome this new team!

Woodalls Campground Management article gives more information on some of our members who had to evacuate earlier this year. It starts on page 30 and continues onto later pages.

December’s edition of MotorHome included an article that featured some CCLOA members. Click here to read it.

November:  We are so pleased for the recognition these KOA parks have received:

2021 KOA FOUNDER’S AWARD
2021 KOA PRESIDENT’S AWARD

In early November, Pagosa Riverside Campground was mentioned in this article in the Houstonia Magazine.

What was known as Ouray RV Park & Cabins is now known as Ouray Riverside Resort. Fellow members Jason & Amber Perkins purchased what was Riverside Inn and Cabins. That means they now own the RV park & cabins plus now an inn, more cabins, a gas station, car wash, and Jeep rentals.

This video tells another cool story about how Ouray Riverside Resort will gain publicity as the country’s Christmas tree makes its way from the Uncompahgre National Forest to Washington D.C.

10/14/2020 was the start of #EastTroublesomeFire. (In this update, I’m speaking only of members parks.)

On 10/21, it flared into a monster firestorm, and as quickly as possible the owners evacuated Elk Creek Campground, Winding River Resort (which had been evacuating their animals), and River Run RV Resort. With assistance by strong winds, the fire grew by 100,000 acres from afternoon to the next morning.

On 10/22, evacuation orders began for Estes Park. Eventually even Estes Park KOA and Jellystone Park of Estes were evacuated.  On 10/25, we know that Estes Park itself was spared.

On Monday, 10/26, it was nice to see news that Estes Park KOA and Jellystone Park of Estes had safely returned home to 16″ of snow.

River Run RV Resort sustained no damage. By 11/2, we knew Elk Creek Campground and Winding River Resort both sustained some fire damage yet the owners reported that they saw considerably more that was saved over that which was lost.

Through November 2, the unfolding developments were posted a bit on our Facebook page.

Ouray RV Park & Cabins received the distinguished award of “Best RV Park in Ouray County!” It’s voted on by the readership of the Ouray County Plaindealer.  In a social media post on 9/8/2020, this image was posted (permission received to use it). It shows (left to right) Jagger (age 3 1/2 yrs), his twin sister Jordan, Jasper (age 6 years), Jason and Amber Perkins, and the award.Jason and Amber Ouray RV Park smaller

La Veta Pines RV Park was the star of this news story with their marketing idea.

Congratulations to Tom Ihme on retiring from 27 years as a servant who protect the public. GOOD JOB, TOM! May you find lots of time for stargazing at Base Camp at Golden Gate Canyon! FYI: Many campground owners have multiple careers.)

Palisade Basecamp RV Resort ranked high enough for this article!

On 8/15, CanyonSide Campground was evacuated for the Cameron Peak Wildfire.

On 9/15, their Facebook page provided this photo:

9/26 update: The Daily Sentinel published this new story about it.

9/27 update: June tells us it crossed onto her property but she’s not sure what that means. Hopefully, all structures remain untouched.

10/11 update: June says the mandatory evac was just lifted; voluntary evac is in place. She expects extensive clean-up issues ahead. Her season normally ends on 10/1 (high-elevation means short season), and it’s been 9 weeks and 2 days since the park was evacuated.

10/14 update: The park’s FB page shows this pic and a heartfelt message.  Here’s their pic and you can see just how close the Cameron Peak Fire came mighty close to the structures at Canyonside Campground!
