Several members have reached out with questions and concerns about their restrooms, showers and other public areas during these times of COVID-19.
CCLOA doesn’t offer medical or legal advice, but we’re going to post insight from what other parks have shared about how they’re handling their public areas. Keep in mind that they, too, don’t offer medical or legal advice! That’s why it’s being posted anonymously.
Before going into the responses, let’s first point you to the CDC’s information, from which there are links for other areas of your business: Cleaning & Disinfecting Your Facility.
Please also note that in late May the CDC guidelines were updated, easing the fears of many business owners. As many reported, including this 5/21 article by USA Today reported: “Though there is the possibility that coronavirus could be transmitted by touching a surface — and then your nose, mouth or eyes — the likelihood of that is lower than person-to-person contact, which is believed to be the primary way coronavirus is transmitted.” The article went on to say, “‘COVID-19 is a new disease and we are still learning about how it spreads,’ says the CDC’s recently updated guidelines.”
MEMBER RESPONSES (we’ll add as more responses arrive):
Fist, we have our guests sign a waiver. No, first, we inform everyone before they book a site, that we’re cleaning the restrooms and laundry room every two hours between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The facilities are open 24 hours a day, and we leave a spray bottle of disinfectant on the counter they can use before they touch anything. We also make sure there are paper towels to get them through the night. Our process seems to make everyone feel comfortable.
We don’t give the restroom keypad code to anyone other than tent campers and those with Class Bs and pop-ups. Those with their own self-contained RV need to use their own facility. That helps with social distancing, it reduces the usage, and it provides gaps so we can more easily get in to clean.
FYI: One park owner in another state said his guests have asked if he’ll continue to leave the boxed cleaning rags and a bottle of disinfectant on the counter even when this pandemic is over because they’d like to spray down the shower stall before using it. Sounds like a possible addition to your standard customer service!
We’re keeping the bath house closed through mid-June. At that point, we will request that only those who need to use the bath house do so/all others who have their own RV bath or cabin to please only use those. It will be disinfected throughout the day. The laundry area will be opened only as requested until mid-June, but will be disinfected when open and then closed each night (if it even was opened during the day).
People have generally been very supportive of social distancing guidelines. We were 100% full Memorial weekend and had no issues at all with large gatherings or crowds in the store/bathrooms/showers.
Laundry Room – By appointment. Haven’t had anyone use it since we opened last week.
Bathrooms and Showers – We ask folks in RVs to use their onboard facilities. Thorough cleaning at 11 am. Sanitizing twice daily in the morning and evening. We ask people to not enter the hall if they see one person waiting for showers.
We’re limiting the number of people in the laundry, clubhouse, dog park and are requiring them to wear a mask. We are also putting a spay bottle of disinfectant and a role of paper towels out for people to wipe down machines or furniture if they want. Before the state started to open we also closed the play area, dog park and clubhouse and limited the hours of the laundry. The bottle of disinfectant and paper towels work well and are popular with the people that use them.
